 SOUND OF SILENCE

It happened for once, after many years

Midnight, I sat by the rusty window with baggy eyes

Looked outside, not in search of stars

But silence.

I never found silence in that dark corner of my room

Or under the lamp

Or even at 5 in the morning.

I found my silence in a stranger’s smile

In a baby’s cry

In the wet grass of my lawn

And In my family’s picture, drawn

I understood what silence looked like

But what exactly does it sound like?

Does it sound like the thumping of heart?

Or the voice in my head

Voices from a beautiful art

Or like the mourn of a dead?

Does silence exist in finding the midnight sun

Or sweet scented flowers

In empty houses

Or in cold water showers?

Sound of silence

Is a place where my desires, judgement and solace subside.

Sound of silence is in a goodbye

It is in the child’s first cry

In the forgiveness of someone

In the tears of happiness

In the feeling of success.

Silence is realizing that

It is not the departure of a sound

But the presence of oneself

Even in a heavy crowd.
